My First Photography Book
Ever since I watched the Luminous-Landscape Video Journal #7 and read the article on Michael Reichmann's Monograph, I have wanted to create a book of my own work. With my printing finally under control I though this would be the perfect time. I chose to do a book of my sister from 2001 to 2005; the time that I have been shooting digitally. Although she has had cancer twice in that time period, I chose to only include photos where she looks beautiful.
Prints For each page, I chose 13"x19" Epson Enhanced Matte Paper. I like this paper for both it's feel, look, and durability. It will also help prevent tearing and the fingerprint accumulation prone to glossy papers. All shots were right justified with about a 1.5" border on the right side. This leaves more than enough room for the binding on the left. Each image required it's own unique size. For some I chose to fill most of the page, while other I chose to print much smaller. I have included a title page (shown above), a hand written dedication page, and a thumbnails page (shown below). The thumbnails page tells the date, time, and location of each photograph.
Binding Doing a quick internet search found the Harcourt Bindery in downtown Boston. I chose a simple black cloth with a square shaped binding. The book looks amazing and of professional quality. Handing someone a bound book rather than a sleeved photo album makes quite a different statement. I highly encourage you to do one for yourself.
